Ameritrade For Dummies

How do I start investing?

A member of my family has shares in its name (but bought them for me) and I want to transfer in my name, to gain experience and practice. Right now, I'm having trouble finding how to do it. (I know, I know, maybe I would not transfer to my name if I do not know very much about the investment – but let's ignore that part for now …) It recommends start an account with TD Ameritrade. I noticed that their site says "account request." Is the word "Apply" means it could get rejected? And once I have an account, do I have to pay a transfer fee from his account to mine? This is probably a stupid question but I guess you have to pay brokerage fees when you buy / sell shares in the future. Right? Again, I know very little about this for a "For Dummies' response would be better, thank you!

I'm not sure TD, that your transfer from an account that has a different name on this. The easiest way would be to others to sell shares to give you money, you buy shares in your own name – but that does not look like much pleasure. He could have his broker to send an original certificate (not free), but if it loses, it's a bit of a pain to replace it.
