Ameritrade Hidden Fees

What is the best online brokerage business to a student with no prior trading experience?

I seeks to E * Trade, TD Ameritrade and Scottrade. I have an idea of transaction fees and minimum balances required, but I wanted some objective opinion, perhaps about hidden fees, friendliness, speed of transactions, etc. Given my personal situation (18 years, around $ 2,000 to invest, not many trades per month (<20)) which would you recommend? I would especially value the opinion of people who have experienced first hand. Thank you in advance.

I have a TD Ameritrade account and I was very pleased with the speed of transactions and everything about the way my account is managed. Keep in mind that $ 2,000 is a good start, but it's really not much. Accordingly, your commissions will eat up a pretty significant amount if you actively trade. Because it sounds like you are going to be a novice trader, I have a little advice. Whenever someone claims active trade and a lot of money to do so, simply assume they are lying to you unless they submit their statements brokerage as evidence. I met many people who claim they have succeeded in "day trading", but the fact is that the overwhelming majority of day traders lose more than they earn. Think about it – most mutual fund managers have MBA prestigious and large teams people who search for them. However, most managers of mutual funds can not beat the results of the S & P. (See link below) If so, how many daytraders (which are usually inexperienced and do not have a staff of researchers) think you can actually fight market? And how can he beat by a significant amount? The answer – almost none of them. Almost anyone who claims to be a day trader is a excellent performance is either looking only at short-term window, or they are. It is usually the latter.
