Buying stock with Ameritrade issue LIMIT! : D?

I want to place an order with a stock using a threshold, but I'm not sure how it works. My idea is that if I had to place an order below the market price and it is down, the price should I automatically buy at this price? For example, I bought this stock, which cost 17 and the end of the day and goes to 16 years and I place a limit order 15.50 the next day and it fluctuates a bit, but at this price will finally do my order automatically purchse what I put? or is it that prices have to be open Market ..

Your first assumption is correct. Your order must be either an agenda which means it will expire if is not completed at the end of the trading day hours (15 hours central) or good till canceled order remains in place for about 4 months before the brokerage firm cancels.
