Australia Trading Hours

Foreign ETF Value Change – Question?

Why do foreign etfs change value during US market trading? I would think that since the markets of say Japan or Australia are closed during our regular market hours the ETFs should not fluctuate as much. The stocks that are contained in that ETF should have made the changes independent of our market hours. Any comments on this questions would be great. Thanks!

ETFs trade like a stock. American investors can look at what’s happening in the American stock market and translate what that’s likely to mean for a foreign ETF. Thus, they may buy or sell depending on what’s going on in the US market.
