how do i become a runner at the chicago board of trade?

My uncle was a “runner” at the board of trade about 20 years ago. I wanted a summer job and thought that would be a great one. I dont really know what a “runner” does though. I have two uncles that have seats on the floor and could get me the job, if a position like that even still exist? Can anyone help me out here and give me more Information about it.

The only way you can get be assured of getting hired for the summer on any exchange is if you know some one.

Exchanges are always looking for help (regardless of the market) so go beat on you uncles, to have them setup an appointment for you with someone at the exchange.or at the least have them get you down on the floor to talk with some of the major firms or the exchange personnel

This is a great job for anyone even though it’s only temporary it looks great on a resume. (much better than many Ivy league classes). You shouldn’t care what you do, just take any job that gets you on the floor, once there you may be able to talk you way other great jobs, at least you earning valuable experience. And don’t worry what they pay you, the experience to worth much more than you can earn.
