Common Stock Trading Terms

What is the real value of AIG stock?

In the AIG bailout, if the government now has an option to purchase 80% of the common stock, wiping out existing shareholders, why is stock not trading near zero? how can I learn about the terms of the government purchase option?

Well, lets see. They’re holding close to a trillion dollars of paper a portion of which may not be good, however the estimated portion is no more than 28% giving them approximately 666 billion worth of paper that has value. Since no one can buy that paper because there is no way to place a fair value on it in this unstable market, and increased capitalization requirements to cover their debt, relatively few people want to invest in this stock until their self determination is restored after paying back the loan.

It is appropriately priced according to your tolerance for risk and ability to lose. I bought it at 2.50 and got out at 4.80. 4.81 is over priced in my estimation.

The wall street journal has the information on it.

High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles In the USA, a penny stock is a common stock that trades for less than five dollars a share and is traded over the counter (OTC) through quotation services such as the OTC Bulletin Board or the Pink Sheets. Although penny stocks are said to be thinly traded, share volumes traded daily can be in the hundreds of millions for a subpenny stock. Legitimate information on penny stock companies can be difficult to find and a stock can be easily manipulated. In the U.S. financial markets, the term penny stock commonly refers to any stock trading outside one of the major exchanges (NYSE, NASDAQ, or AMEX), and is often considered pejorative. High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles Preferred stock, also called preferred shares, preference shares, or simply preferreds, is a special equity security that resembles properties of both an equity and a debt instrument and generally considered a hybrid instrument. Preferreds are senior (i.e. higher ranking) to common stock, but are subordinate to bonds. Preferred stock usually carries no voting rights, but may carry priority over common stock in the payment of dividends and upon liquidation. Preferred stock may carry a dividend that is paid out prior to any dividends being paid to common stock holders. Preferred stock may have a convertibility feature into common stock. Terms of the preferred stock are stated in a Certificate of Designation. Similar to bonds, preferred stocks are rated by the major credit rating companies. The rating for preferreds is generally lower since preferred dividends do not carry the same guarantees as interest payments from bonds and they are junior to all creditors.
