Day Trading Problems

Is anyone else having problems with Questrade?

I have been trading with them a little over a week, in the last 8 days they have had tech problems 5 days at market open. Im getting killed on some trades because of it and missing out on some huge ones. I do the majority of my trading at market open. Does anyone know of a broker that works well at market open and has similar commission charges of 9.99 a trade without having to have 100 000 in liquid assets.

Trading at the open is often problematic not necessarily because of the brokerage but because of the stock exchange. A lot of buy and sell orders usually pile up when the market is closed. And executing them all at the same time when the market opens is impossible even with modern technology.

A lot of part-time stock trading amateurs usually trade at the open. Because they have a day-time job. They don’t have time to sit at the computer and watch the market. They place an order when the market is closed and go to work. And that’s why the market often swings wildly at the open. And you often end up in a situation where you get partial fills or no fills even when the stock price hits your target price.

I don’t think you can fix your trading problem by changing brokers. Most likely it’s a problem at the stock exchange and not at your brokerage.

I suggest that you stop trading at the open and choose some other time to trade. Professionals often trade in the last hour of the trading day.
