East India Trading Company Wikipedia
What does the European East India Company do with trades with Asia such as British East India Company?
I read in Wikipedia but don’t understand so does anyone knows what do these companies do in trade with Asia in colonial or historical time
These companies traded primarily in spices but this expanded to include cotton, silk, sugar and other goods. Later on they became political and acted as agents of imperialism and ended ruling in the countries they traded with, namely India, Malaya (now Malaysia), and Indonesia. This is only the short story. For the full story read the History books on these companies.

Fort St. George (India) $114.71 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles Fort St George (or historically, White Town) is the name of the first British fortress in India, founded in 1639 at the coastal city of Madras (modern city of Chennai.) The construction of the fort provided the impetus for further settlements and trading activity, in what was originally a no mans land. Thus, it is a feasible contention to say that the city evolved around the fortress. The British East India Company, which had entered India around 1600 for trading activities, had begun licensed trading at Surat, which was its initial bastion. However, to secure its trade lines and commercial interests in the spice trade, it felt the necessity of a port closer to the Malaccan Straits. It succeeded in purchasing a piece of coastal land, originally called chennirayarpattinam (Channapatnam by a few accounts.), from a Vijayanagar chieftain named Chennappa Nayaka based in Chandragiri, where it began construction of a harbour and a fort. Bibliography of the East India Company (Hardcover) $149.68 This copiously annotated bibliography traces the history of the East India Company by examining the printed materials issued during its first 185 years, from the award of Elizabeth I ’s Charter to the passing of William Pitt’s India Act. It is the first large-scale bibliography of the company to be published, describing a huge range of printed items, from Parliamentary Acts to satirical poems. Included in this bibliography are the company’s own petitions for the regular renewal of its privileges, lists of proprietors, complaints by disaffected employees, the polemics of eighteenth-century pamphleteers, the rousing oratory of Edmund Burke, and practical works on navigation. This is an important new resource for research material on the history of British India and South Asia in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. |
