What’s the downside of trading with multiple brokers at a time (e.g eTrade & Fidelity). Any tax implications?

On internet forums people talk about which online trader is better than the other. But I wonder, if there are no monthly fees involved (which is true for most trading services/brokers) what if I use 2 brokers to get the best of trading tools and commission fees?? Of course, I understand I will need to maintain 2 accounts and that I can’t transfer securities from one broker to other…

Other than moving positions and/or balances from one broker to another, there is no downside, if anything there are pluses.

You can always use the multiple firms services, you have a better shot at new issue participation, you can build volume and/or positions which usually leads to cheaper commissions from quality firms.

Many experienced investors/traders use multiple firms.
