First off, I believe you have 30 days to use your free trades. Keep in mind that after you sell a stock, if you have only a cash account with E-Trade, you can’t buy again with your proceeds for three days following (which is an industry standard). Each time you do anything with a stock, it counts as one trade. If you made a purchase, it’s a trade. If you sell, it’s one trade. E.G. if you buy 100 shares today, sell 50 tomorrow and 50 the next day, you have made THREE trades.
