New Etrade

New etrade account question?

I just opned a etrade cash account only for stocks a few days back waiting for my money to transfered into it yet form my bank.
now say i buy $5k or a stock and sell it the same day and make ~$50, do i have to wait 3 days to buy and sell another stock with my 5K or less not counting the $50 i made?

The stock regulation that you refer to is T+3 (trade plus 3 days.) I have not had any problem with Etrade on this concern but then in turn I have not traded (buy/sell) the same stock in one day. They can legally hold the available cash until it settles (3 days.) But a stock with a reasonable beta should be instantly sell. The use of a “settle date” is so they can float the funds for 3 days interest free.

I first began with Etrade about a week after they went online. I lived through three growing pains with them but they were about the only online broker at the time. Now there are many and I opened another account with a different broker and will soon leave Etrade. Their customer service has much to be desired.
