Is the Audio CD Dead? If not, when will it be?

I’m a music nut. For years I was a CD guy, I loved having artwork and all that stuff…until iTunes. Now its like having an enormous jukebox at your fingertips. I used to buy CD’s just to rip them into iTunes without DRM and then trade them to the local CD store the same day…but now I download everything and I don’t think I’ve purchased a physical CD in probably over a year or so. I also ripped every CD I owned, sold the whole lot, and have gone 100% digital. I don’t miss the clutter one bit, and having my music literally on demand actually lets me listen to my collection even more than I used to without reloading a cd changer.

The music industry is currently working on this. Their goal is to faze the CD out and start selling music in digital format on what will resemble a memory stick or card, like the ones being used in digital cameras.
