How to completely liquidate a stock position that contains fractional shares?
Say that due to DRIPs, I have 117.83 shares of XYZ stock in my TD Ameritrade account. And I want to sell my entire position. Do I sell 117 shares? Does Ameritrade take care of “cleaning out” that extra .83 share? Also, is there a problem selling in an “odd lot” amount such as 117 shares?
I do all my transactions thru Sharebuilder – I have bought and sold fractional shares many times – Sb has a button you can click that says “SELL ALL SHARES” – it’s not a big deal – mutual funds and ETF’s probably trade in fractionals all the time
