Good idea for Spanish / European citizen to use TD Ameritrade?
Hello,
I´m a Spanish citizen and would like to use TD Ameritrade broker.
I contact them but they were not very precise with the taxes issue.
-could you please explain taxes. How much do I have to pay.
-are you European and invest via ameritrade? Please give your opinion.
-how long does it take to process an application to open an account from Europe?
-do you recommend any competitive alternative? Perhaps SelfTrade…

I already know that is possible for Spanish citizens to open an account with TD Ameritrade
It is possible but TD does not want to deal with the “withholding” requirments from the Banking Dept and the IRS. The worry is that you take your profits to Spain and never pay the IRS. They have to track you down and that is impossible. So they make TD withhold money and that causes a lot of problems for TD.
ANyway, don’t give up. If they want your business, they will do it..
