What is the status of the carbon credit trading market in India & what are the current opportunities ?

Kyoto Protocal and USA’s stand on the same.

Carbin Credits is recent phenomenon in India. So far only corporates and few of the NGOs are reaping the benefits of carbon credits. SRF Ltd is the corporate which is in the news many times because of carbon credits. Rabo Bank and it’s subsidiaries do handle some work, particularly the trading part, of carbon credits. But there is no organised market or organised methods about carbon credits in India. Neither the government and / or any agencies including NGOs try to provide information on mass scale to the people.
Lot of information (mostly not specifics but general) is available in media. Amongst NGOs, Anandi Sharan Meili is well known. Some information is available on website www.cdmindia.com. But as I have noted no concerted and organised effort about trading carbon credits is taking place in India. And unfortunately no worthwhile information is coming even from the few people/organisations working in this arena. I have tried earlier.

Carbon Credit $106.74 Carbon credits are a key component of national and international attempts to mitigate the growth in concentrations of greenhouse gases (GHGs). One Carbon Credit is equal to one ton of Carbon. Carbon trading is an application of an emissions trading approach.
