trade deadline q’s?
ok the MLB trade deadline was ealier in the month, but just yesterday my fav team the new york mets traded to get jeff conine, other teams will do the same for making a playoff run. but i dont understand how this is possible if the deadline has passed, in the NFL and NHL if the deadling has passed there is now more trades but in baseball there still is.
if someone could help me with this it would help alot
Basically, that trade deadline is the non-waiver trade deadline. A club can place a player on waivers in August, and if no team claims him, he can then be traded to another club. This is what happened with Conine, and also what allowed Boston to trade Wily Mo Pena to the Nationals.
If a player is claimed off waivers, then the team who owns the player has 3 options. They can work out a trade with the claiming team, they can give him to the claiming team outright, or they can pull him off of waivers.
