What do u think about a 1878 Silver Dollar Trade coin?

It is says that a 1878 Silver Dollar is made of 90% silver 10% copper. What do you think of this? How sure are we that this 1878 Silver Dollar Trade Coin is really made of such? is not possible that it might be also made of alloy or any other element?

Not only was the 1878 Trade Dollar made of 90% silver and 10% copper, so were all the other Trade Dollars made from 1873 to 1885. Not to mention all other dollar coins minted in 1935 or earlier, with the exception of the gold dollar minted in 1849 to 1889 which was 90% gold and 10% copper.

What makes you skeptical that the Trade Dollar is not 90% silver and 10% copper? Should we also be skeptical that the current presidential dollars are not 88.5% copper, 6% zinc, 3.5% magnessium and 2% nickel? Maybe those are really made of some other alloy or element too.

The fact of the matter is that in earlier days it was felt that coins needed to be made of precious metals and the amount of material needed to be “worth” its denominational value. This became increasingly difficult to do as economies begain to grow, inflation levels rose and the values of these precious metals increased. In fact any quarter, nickel or dime made in 1964 or earlier are also 90% silver.
